The confirmed facts about this map fit in a paragraph. Everything longer than that is someone guessing, and on a console-only launch nobody can check until November 19.
Grand Theft Auto VI is set in Vice City, in the fictional US state of Leonida. Rockstar's own description puts Jason and Lucia "on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida."
That is the confirmed setting. Not a summary of it — that is the whole thing.

Every item here comes from Rockstar's or Take-Two's own words. There are seven.

What is not confirmed, despite what you have read
None of the following has been stated by Rockstar or Take-Two. Not hinted, not "as good as confirmed" — simply not said.
Map size. No square mileage, no comparison to the last game's map, no figure of any kind. Every number you have seen is an estimate built on trailer footage, and some are outright invented.
Any settlement other than Vice City. Rockstar has not named a second town, county, district or region. Not one.
How much of the state you can reach. "Stretching across the state" describes the story, not the drivable area.
Interiors, transport, or how the map is structured. Nothing.
Collectible counts and completion totals. Nothing. There is no confirmed number of anything to find.
Why nobody actually knows, and why that is unusual
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. There is no PC version announced.
That matters more than it sounds. On a PC release, the game files are on people's machines within hours and the full map, every collectible coordinate and every mission is extracted and published before most people have finished the first act. Console builds do not open up that way.
So there will be no datamined map. On November 19 the entire playing world starts from nothing at the same moment, and everything anyone knows about this map will have been found by a person driving into it. Why the map cannot leak goes into what can and cannot get out before then.
That is a strange and temporary situation, and it is worth appreciating before it disappears.
What that means if you are trying to find things
For the first time in a long time, the map gets discovered rather than downloaded — which means the fastest anyone can know where something is depends entirely on how quickly players can tell each other.
That is the whole reason our map exists. It starts empty on launch day, the same as everyone else's knowledge. Players report what they find, reports that land in the same spot get merged and gain confidence, and a moderator checks everything before it appears. No account, nothing to sign up for.
If you want to be part of the group that builds it in the first hours rather than reading it a week later, that is worth knowing about now rather than on the nineteenth.
How to read a map claim between now and launch
A rule that will serve you well for the next two months: if a claim about the map cannot be traced to Rockstar's site, Rockstar's Newswire, or a Take-Two filing or press release, it is someone's guess — and guesses about this game have been wrong at a remarkable rate for years.
