GTA 6 release date, platforms and price — everything confirmed

One date is official, two others still circulate, and the difference matters if you are planning around launch day.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. That date has been reaffirmed twice during 2026: once when pre-orders opened in June, and again in August alongside the first extended gameplay reveal.

Every other date attached to the game is either outdated or a misunderstanding of the delay history below.

The two delays

The date has moved twice, and both changes were announced by Rockstar or Take-Two rather than surfacing through leaks.

That track record is worth keeping in mind when judging any new rumour. Rockstar has never let a date slip quietly. Each change came with a public statement.

Platforms

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. That is the complete launch platform list.

There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version, no Nintendo Switch version, and no announced PC release. If a PC version follows the pattern of previous Rockstar titles, it would arrive well after console launch, but nothing has been confirmed and no window has been given.

Price and editions

In the United States, the Standard Edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026 through the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store, and selected retailers.

Pre-load begins November 12, a week before launch — Rockstar states this on the product page for both digital editions. If you are on a slow connection, that week is the difference between playing at unlock and waiting on a download.

Boxed copies become available the same day, and they contain a download code rather than a disc, so a physical copy saves you nothing on the download. Our editions guide covers that and what separates the two versions.

One number nobody has: Rockstar has published no install size or storage requirement for the game. Clear as much space as you reasonably can rather than planning against a figure that has not been confirmed — preload and file size covers how to do that sensibly.

What we have actually seen

Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on August 6, 2026 and released it on August 27 — first as a Netflix premiere at 3pm ET, then on Rockstar's own YouTube channel and the game's site at 9pm ET the same day.

Rockstar's description of it is short: footage "captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5," showcasing "the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet."

We are not going to tell you secondhand what mechanics it showed. A lot of sites will, with varying accuracy, and you can watch the thing yourself in less time than it takes to read their summaries. It is on Rockstar's site.

What Rockstar has confirmed in writing about the game itself is brief: it is set in the state of Leonida, the central city is Vice City, and it follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos through "a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state." Planning around the date
