GTA 6 Standard vs Ultimate Edition — what each one actually includes

The difference is cosmetic content, not access — and the detail that catches most people is that the boxed copy contains a download code rather than a disc.

Both editions of Grand Theft Auto VI contain the same complete game. The Ultimate Edition costs $20 more in the United States — $99.99 against $79.99 — and what that buys is a bundle of in-game vehicles, weapons, clothing and businesses. Nothing about the story, the map, or how the game performs is behind it.

That is the whole answer. The rest of this page is the detail that is easy to get wrong, starting with the one that surprises people at the counter.

The physical copy does not contain a disc

Rockstar's support documentation states it plainly: the physical version of the game contains a code that can be redeemed for the digital download, and a disc is not included in the box.

Three consequences follow from that, and all three matter more than the edition question:

If you were buying physical to avoid a large download, or to have something resellable, neither reason survives contact with the actual product.

What the two editions include

Standard Edition Ultimate Edition
US price $79.99 $99.99
Format Digital, or code in box Digital only
The full game Yes Yes
Vintage Vice City Pack Yes Yes
Month of GTA+ Digital purchases Digital purchases
Bonus in-game content Yes, listed below

The Vintage Vice City Pack comes with both editions, and Rockstar's store states the offer runs for orders placed before November 20, 2026 — so it is not strictly pre-order-only. Take-Two describes it as items that "flash back to when the neon burned brightest"; Rockstar lists the contents as a '55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. The free month of GTA+ is listed as a digital store bonus.

What is in the Ultimate Edition

Rockstar lists the Ultimate Edition contents by name. In full:

Take-Two describes the bundle as "an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story."

Read that list honestly: it is cars, guns, clothes, and a set of businesses. Several entries are shops rather than items, which suggests unlockables rather than cosmetics, but Rockstar has not explained how any of it is granted in-game and we are not going to guess for you.

You can decide later

Rockstar states that Standard Edition owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately at any time. That removes most of the urgency from this decision. If you are unsure whether a vehicle bundle is worth $20 to you, buy Standard, play the game, and find out — the upgrade is not a closing window.

What Rockstar has not said

One thing people will confidently tell you that has no official source: the install size. Rockstar has published no download or storage figure for the game. Any number you see quoted is someone's estimate, which is why our launch day checklist tells you to clear as much space as you can rather than aim at a target.

Pre-load is confirmed, though. Rockstar's product page states that pre-load begins November 12, 2026 for both digital editions — the same day boxed copies become available, which is what the code in the box is there to support. Preload and file size has the detail.

We would rather tell you a thing is unknown than fill the gap. Everything on this site works the same way, which is also why the community map only shows locations that more than one player has independently reported.

So which one

Buy Standard unless you specifically want the vehicle and business bundle. Nothing in the Ultimate Edition affects the game you get, the upgrade stays available afterwards, and $20 buys a meaningful amount of storage expansion if your console is tight on space — which is a real launch-day problem and the subject of our launch day checklist.
